Parent Involvement
|
Parent Involvement Each family participates in one of the school’s parent groups, consisting of 8-10 families per group. Upon enrollment families agree to put in approximately two to three parent participation hours each month. Parents sign up for the group of their choice in September. Most of the involvement hours occur during the monthly parent meetings, with children always included. These are wonderful community building times. Each group meets on alternate months at a member’s house. Meeting times vary by the committee’s preferences. The purposes of the meetings are: 1) to personalize parent contact and relationships. 2) to allow the children to visit each other’s homes. 3) to perform the committee’s designated responsibilities. 4) to plan a fundraising event
Each parent group selects a contact person (the Grand Delegator) who serves for the school year and who shares responsibility with the Staff Liaison for:
Enthusiastic parent involvement is vital to the continuing success of The Learning Tree. We count on each family’s full participation.
Our Five Parent Committees Are Celebrating our Diversity This committee helps us follow our Anti-Bias curriculum goals. They will work with the staff to plan a year of celebrations of the Holidays and Cultural events that are important to our current families. Parents who want to help us celebrate certain Holidays should definitely join this committee!
Parent Support/Networking This committee provides a safety net for our busy working families. Projects include baby-sitting co-ops, carpooling, weekend breaks, single parent support, social get together, and resource lists.
School Events/Fundraising“Party Organizers” is a good description this committee. They plan Learning Tree picnics, parties, and fundraisers. In addition, they coordinate our big scholarship fundraiser of the year with the rest of the Learning Tree families—our Spring Raffle and Silent Auction, which brings in an average of $10,000 for our scholarship fund!
Community Outreach and Public RelationsThis group teaches the children to “give back” to their community by projects such as collecting food/clothes to give away. In the past, this committee has worked closely with such organizations as Childhaven, Tree House, and The Fred Lind Manor.
Creative ProjectsThis committee offers parents the opportunity to share their talents with The Learning Tree community. If you have creative gifts that enrich our curriculum and add excitement to our school functions, this is the committee for you. Do you have a love of gardening? Take a look at our front yard, which was designed 100% by our past Creative Projects Committees. Have you always wanted to do a special circle for your child’s class, or lend your talents for our late afternoon project time, or perform at one of our school functions? Most of all, this committee has fun!
